Supporting the Interconnectedness of all Beings Through Deep Ecological Awareness
Holos is closing our associate training programming order to focus on our ecopsychology and ecotherapy programming. However, we now encourage potential patients to visit our ‘people of holos’ page where you may find most wonderful alumni of Holos therapists who have been careful vetted and invited to offer their services through our program. These are therapists (and a couple of remaining associate therapists) who have demonstrated an excellence and integrity in their craft. Each therapist sets their own fees and manages their own intakes. If you are seeking quality, holistic counseling, kindly scroll through the bios of these therapists and reach out directly to them. Keep in mind that as long as you are a resident of the state of California, you may work either in-person or remotely with any of our therapists.
Our intake line will remain in effect through the end of 2024 for people who prefer to have help in getting placed. To get an intake referral please call our main line at 415.862.0594.

ECOPSYCHOLOGY
Ecopsychology best describes the philosophical framework of Holos Institute. It is an approach toward healing in which the human mind and body are viewed in their relationship to nature and the whole web of life. Ecopsychology offers a philosophical ground for deeper understanding of human problems and practical approaches for healing and transformation. There is reciprocity between the natural processes of our world and the balanced psyche. In nature we find metaphors and direct experiences that can restore well being. Psychologically healthy people have a respectful and sustainable relationship with the natural world.
The name “Holos” is derived from the Greek term for wholeness. Holos Institute re-envisions the therapeutic process to include mind, body and spirit as well as the living community of which we are all a part. We honor the diverse human cultural heritage of our ancestors and that which we know as the natural world: the plants, animals and living Earth upon which we all depend. We seek to integrate practices of ancient and contemporary therapeutic arts, attuning to the uniqueness of each individual, as we help them navigate towards wholeness and creativity in fulfilling their life purpose.

WORKSHOPS & EDUCATION
Holos is dedicated to creating a more holistic world in which each individual can find their unique and yet interdependent place in the whole web of life. We offer nature-based workshops and retreats to the general public that incorporate nature-based therapy and ecopsychological processes. We also offer continuing education programs for MFTs, LPCCs, LCSWs (and for some programs, PhD's and RNs) grounded in the principles of ecopsychology. Holos serves as a unique leader in ecopsychology educational programs for both the licensed professional community and for environmentally aware individuals. We often host an Ecopsychology Conference that draws together a rich group of environment aware professionals.
COUNSELING
Holos Institute was originally developed to serve as a holistic counseling center. We are now phasing out our counseling services and internship programs to shift our focus on the ecopsychology programs However, we do continue to help connect California residents wanting quality, holistic psychotherapy with wonderful therapists who have trained at Holos. Our therapists are exceptional clinicians who have been carefully vetted. We have a small group of very experienced, advanced-level, post-graduate Marriage and Family Therapist interns (ssociate MFT) and a group of fully licensed alumni therapists who completed their training at Holos Institute and have been invited, by the strength of their skills, to offer therapy.
Since the pandemic, when our physical offices closed, most counseling sessions are now offered via telehealth (phone or video). Some therapists are available for in-person sessions and/or ecotherapy with established clients. Please visit our therapists' bios to find the right match and then contact them directly.
Your donation directly funds scholarship and financial aid that help make our educational programs more affordable. Holos offers unique training opportunities for people with great potential to shift the awareness of people with whom they work.
Please consider donating to Holos. Your donations are 100% tax deductible as Holos is a 501(3)c non-profit (Tax Id 94-3139210)
The program will cover principles of ecopsychology and the unique way that we may embrace the world from the ecological perspective. We will explore techniques and various processes of holding a clinical container outdoors, facilitating a deeper connection with and reciprocity to the natural world, and employing a nature-based approach in working with trauma and the nervous system. We will consider cultural, clinical and ethical considerations of ecotherapy. We will address the growing collective anxiety of climate change or “eco-anxiety” and ways to work with this.
